His work involves the unification of space and material on multiple dimensions, with the canvas as the landscape and the object as a distant memory. He utilizes organic material, such as bronze, resin, iron, wood and aluminum, with profound respect for maintaining its natural state of color and texture. Pelaez considers each piece “a journey through space and time brought to a standstill in his memory”, a nostalgia into which he escapes. For the onlooker, to approach Pelaez’s work is to encounter one’s own distant, nostalgic landscape. Luis Fernando Pelaez was born in Jerico, Colombia in 1945. His internationally acclaimed sculptures have been exhibited in installations throughout the Americas and Europe, including The Museum of Modern Art, Bogota; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sao Paulo; and The Museum of the Americas, Washington, D.C.
